Finding work

👉 Tip: In Antigonish, it can seem that finding a job is based on who you know. What matters more is: who knows you are looking for work

Tell your friends that you are looking for a job and what kind of work suits you best. Ask your friends if their employers are looking to hire new workers. People who already know and trust you are likely to recommend you or connect you to unadvertised opportunities. Don’t miss out by only looking for posted job ads.

Nova Scotia Works - Career Connections NS has Case Managers and Career Practitioners are available to help anyone looking for a job.

Free services include:

You should bring your resume or a list of work experience, or have completed your resume in your NS Works online or Explore NS Careers account profiles..

Job listings

Most job search websites can be used for local and Canada-wide searches. You can also find remote jobs (work from anywhere).

Some websites will offer resume distribution services. This allows you to upload your resume to be automatically checked against job listings and forwarded to employers. Be wary if you are to pay for any service; this is unusual and should make you think twice about using the website.

👉 TIPS

Online applications can take a long time to complete and may require you to upload multiple documents. Check before you begin to see if you can save your application and come back later if you can’t finish it all at once.

You can use the computers at the Peoples' Place Library or Career Connections Nova Scotia Works to work on your application.

Many of Antigonish’s biggest employers host job listings on their websites. If there is somewhere that you want to work, check their website and Facebook page for posts about job openings. The employers below have application forms on their websites that you must complete. Have your resume and cover letter ready to upload.
