Depending on your circumstances, the Women's Centre may be able to help you with paying an essential bill in an emergency.

St Vincent de Paul is a Catholic organization that provides emergency support to community members. They can help with paying for oil in the winter. Call for help.

If you have no oil, propane, wood or are at risk of having your electricity cut, Emergency Income Assistance through Community Services can offer access to money and support.

Get help paying for heat

The Heating Assistance Rebate Program (HARP) helps low-and-middle income Nova Scotians with the cost of home heating. The rebate is $600.

💰To qualify you must fall into one of these categories:

📅 HARP is available November to March.

The Antigonish Fuel Fund can help if you are having a hard time paying for heat energy costs.

The Salvation Army HEAT Fund can help if you are going to be our of fuel or have received a notice that your electricity will be shut off. 

💰You must be low income for this program, defined as:

You must be low income and provide recent bank statements or pay stubs. You must also send in your most recent heating bill.

📅The HEAT Fund is available November to April.

Efficiency Nova Scotia offers free products and rebates for homeowners that can save you money on heating and energy. Low-income homeowners qualify for no-cost HomeWarming upgrades. Renters qualify for free energy efficient products.

If you struggle with budgeting your money, Viola's Place Community Trustees can step in to manage your money by temporarily taking control of your finances. 

They will cash your cheques and make sure all your bills are paid. Then they give you your remaining money and help you plan your spending.
